attendee commentThe primary objective of this course is to provide practical knowledge and information to improve the practice of medicine for primary care providers in the context of diagnosis and management cardiovascular disease. Specific learning objectives are described below for areas where knowledge gaps have been identified.

After attending this course, participants should be able to:

  • Utilize the electrocardiogram to better diagnose cardiovascular disease
  • Recognize specific challenges in caring for patients with cardiovascular disease
  • Implement the guidelines for lipid-lowering therapy
  • Assess new therapies for managing hypertension
  • Understand the evaluation and treatment of the aortic and mitral valve
  • Identify the optimal strategy for screening for peripheral vascular disease
  • Discuss choosing the correct stress test for your patient
  • Utilize the guidelines for the management of valvular heart disease
  • Analyze optimal strategies for the management of prosthetic valves and endocarditis
